Brief History:

From 1921 until the early 1950's a collection of books borrowed from the State library circulated from various locations in McComb, done with volunteer help. In the early 1950's Mrs. Blanche Shafer Fletcher bequeathed a sum of money for a library building which would include a meeting room for the various clubs. So it came to be, through 1956 and 1957, plans were made, and in 1958 the library was built at its present location.

In 1973, an addition was added to the south of the existing building. In 1983, a major addition was added to the north. Our current collection exists of 53,000 adult and children's books, 4200 videocassettes, plus audio cassettes and music compact discs. The library automated in 1995, using the Gaylord Automated System.  In September of 2003, the library upgraded its automation system to Polaris.

An addition to the adult nonfiction area was added in 2004 which was made possible by donations from the children of former library director Miriam Rader and members of the community.  This allowed the library to add much needed space to the nonfiction area and to expand the local history area.  This area was appropriately named the Miriam Rader Legacy Addition.
